In order to gain a complete certificate in General Education II, students will need to complete a further 2.5 hours a week. MDLC offers a variety of Vocational and Educational units to choose from.

*People who left school early, or missed out on primary or secondary education.
*Adults who want to do further study, such as vocational certificates or Year 11, perhaps after a long break from formal education.

Courses are nationally accredited and recognised by Centrelink.
This is a flexible delivery program. You can choose the number of subjects you wish to study, from one subject (such as English or Maths) to a full Certificate.

*WHAT IS VCAL?
The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands-on option for students in Year 11 and 12. It gives students practical work related skills, as well as the literacy, numeracy and personal skills they need to take them into further training or their ideal job. Like the VCE certificate, it is an accredited senior secondary qualification.

1. LITERACY AND NUMERACY SKILLS
Provided through subject electives.

•VCE English at Year 11 or 12


2. WORK RELATED SKILLS
Students complete sound preparation for work activities in this class. Resume writing, interview techniques, job hunting and how to go about applying for positions. Projects aimed at improving communication skills are developed using a variety of methods, including Certificates in Information Technology and/or Return to Work.

3. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT SKILLS
Commencing on:

Students attend a class aimed at improving their skills for work and good citizenship. Accredited courses and special projects are included in this class. VCAL students may undertake studies and/or specially designed community programs organised in partnership with community based organisations. Subjects selected from the VCE program may also be included in this strand.

4. INDUSTRY SPECIFIC SKILLS
Commencing on:

Students have the flexibility to either complete a single VET certificate or to complete modules and units from a variety of certificates; thus gaining experience in a wide range of vocational areas. Build your pathway from courses offered at MDLC.

Concession Card Holders
Participants who hold recognised government concession cards, who enrol in any ACFE funded course, will be eligiable for a maximum of 640 hours of training/study and are required to pay a minimum tuition fee of $55.00 on enrolment. UNIT 1 - Criminal Law and Justice
The course begins with an investigation of Criminal Law. It includes reviewing the role of the police, what happens in a criminal trial and looks at types of crime, the defences to crime and criminal punishments. Finally, we look at whether our criminal justice system is fair and capable of providing justice.

Psychology is the study of thoughts, feelings and behaviour of people and animals. The course develops understanding of the scientific nature of psychology and the appropriate study fields.

This new course at MDLC will explore a variety of areas of study. A wide range of topics will allow individual expression to be developed through different materials.Students will be encouraged to experiment and have lots of fun during the course. Art in culture and social contexts, issues and themes will be explored. As with any practical subject, materials will be supplied as part of the cost. There will be some additional cost should a student want to work in a particular area.

recreational garden and craft activities.
